There are all kinds of ways to help. Everyone knows we’re always looking for mentors. But we also need help planning special events, people who like to raise money, and Board of Directors members to guide us in reaching our goals.
If you’re interested in mentoring, here’s the process for becoming a ‘Big.’
- Call or email us to request an interview.
- You will need three references (one family, one close friend, and one professional reference). Bring names and phone numbers with you.
- We need a photocopy of your driver's license, social security card, and proof of current auto insurance. We can make a copy for you when you come for your interview.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters does background checks on all volunteers. The background checks include criminal history, Social Security check and driving record history. At your interview we’ll ask you to authorize the background check. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ulster County will cover the cost.
- When you’ve completed your interview, and we’ve checked your references and background, your application will be submitted to the President for approval. We will review your application, and you'll hopefully be matched with a Little Brother or Sister.
- Program staff will contact you to schedule an introduction to your child's Big Brother/Big Sister, you and your child.
THEN THE FUN BEGINS!
